Training Process

Legislated Training Requirements
The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) offers a Basic Private Security Certificate, which provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to work as a security guard. This program involves the BST 1 and 2 courses, and successful completion of these two courses is required prior to obtaining a security patrol (security guard) license in B.C.

Supplementary Tri-Force Training
In addition to this mandatory training, Tri-Force Security Services provides training to all staff after being hired. This training focuses on occupational and behavioural skills development.

More specifically, this training will include:
  • Public relations and communication skills
  • Report writing and note taking
  • Professional conduct
  • Retail loss detection and prevention
  • Security Agencies Act regulations
  • Civil and Criminal Law (as pertaining to the security guard)
  • Basic First Aid
  • Written examinations

    Upon completion of this training, the Security Guard will be evaluated and a decision made as to which site is best suited for their abilities.

    Client Specific Training
    Once the guard is assigned to a site, they will be provided with site specific training.

    This comprehensive training includes (but is not limited to):
  • Description of facility installations, sprinkler rooms, shops etc
  • Fire and Safety procedures
  • Use of equipment and communication devices
  • Site policies and procedures
  • Patrol responsibilities
  • Lock and unlock procedures
  • Reporting procedures
  • Types of access control systems and areas that may be scaled
  • Intrusion alarm systems, control and procedures, as well as response factors
  • Working relationship between the facility, police, fire, and ambulance
  • Personal deportment requirements
  • Additional duties required by the client

    Regular follow-up reviews are conducted with the guard and the client to determine if there are any potential areas for improvement.

    Additional Training
    Tri-Force Security Services provides additional training to its staff to allow for further development and opportunities of advancement within the organization. Further training can be implemented to suit clients' needs and site requirements.

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution
  • SuperHost Program (Customer service and public relations)
  • Occupational First Aid
  • WHMIS Training
  • Monthly newsletter providing up-to-date training and information
  • Security Supervisor courses
  • Seminars and workshops
  • Emergency Preparedness

    Tri-Force also actively encourages all staff to pursue additional training and educational opportunities to further enhance their development as security professionals.
